Kinky Straight Realness: 10 Of Our Favorite Looks (And How To Recreate Them!)

Earlier this year, I did some spring cleaning and cleared out my old hair and beauty products. I decided to part ways with tired extensions and wigs that, if they could talk, had a little too much steamy tea to spill. As I tossed them into the trash, I contemplated going a few months without having extensions or wigs, but this summer’s humidity came a bit sooner than expected so I decided otherwise.

Now, I’m feeling Pacific Ocean salty that I no longer have my kinky straight hair to survive (and look cute) as my tresses struggle in the city that never sleeps. It’s not only easy to manage, but it blends flawlessly with my natural hair and makes getting through humid summers, like this one, a breeze. I’m even more done with myself because our favorites such as SZA, Yvonne Orji, and Niecey Nash have been killing the the blown-out textured look with everyone else following suit, leaving me behind in the dust. *insert dramatic violins*

To care for your kinky straight hair extensions, use a wide tooth comb or paddle brush to maintain the texture of the hair. Wash the hair every 2- 3 weeks with lukewarm water and apply a deep-conditioner. After rinsing the conditioner out of the hair with cold water, dry it off and apply argan or baobab oil to the hair to maintain moisture while it air-dries (here are the best oils to maintain your weave). You can also  braid or style it with flexi rods. Remember the rule of the thumb with this hair is: less is more. The less heat applied to kinky straight extensions will help maintain the hair’s texture and initial style. The hair is also very full. Go for less bundles if you want a natural fullness.

Happy shopping and slaying!
